The Togolese Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries and health authorities have confirmed the presence of avian influenza after investigating the sudden mass death of poulty on a farm, at Sigbehoue, about 45 km (28 miles) east of the capital Lomé, near Aneho, where about 2,500 of 6,000 chicken died in two days. If you witness, or receive credible reports of large-scale bird deaths in Togo, please contact the Togolese veterinary authorities immediately (Ministere de l’Agriculture, de l’Elevage et de la Peche Tel: (228) 251-4353). We will update American citizens in Togo as the situation develops.
