On August 12, 2005, the Chargé d' Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Togo, Mr. Charles H. Twining signed a financing agreement of $10,000, that is to say 5.250.000 francs CFA with the representative of Association JAVIA – Youth in Action for an Integral and Improved Life - for the construction of classrooms and other buildings inside the Primary School of Ganavé village located in the Lakes Prefecture. The project was selected by the " Self Help Fund of the Ambassador."
The Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy, Mr. J.A. Diffily and the Prefect of the Lakes, Mr. Koffi Agbodji, chaired the inaugural ceremony of the new buildings at Ganave’s Public Primary School on June 1, 2007. This was in the presence of the Inspector of Schools in West-Lakes and other local authorities, teachers and pupils.
The subsidy granted by the Self Help Program was intended for the construction of a school building of three classrooms, an office for the headmaster, a store and a veranda, with a local contribution of the community in sand, gravel and manpower assessed at approximately 1.800.000 francs. The project which benefits more than 450 pupils will help increase registrations and promote education in the village of Ganavé.
The Self Help Program is the special self-promotion fund of the Ambassador. It allows him to grant funds to small development projects. The fund helps small community projects to get off to a good start and to remain viable several years after granting of the funds.
