International Education Week Celebrated
Started seven years ago, on the joint initiative of both the Department of Education and the State Department, the U.S. Embassy celebrated International Education Week in Togo on November 16. Several presentations were organized on this year’s topic: “Engage in Global Partnerships and Opportunities.” Participants included the former Vice-consul and acting Director of the American Cultural Center (ACC) John Corrao, Pr. Akpaganah representing the president of the University of Lomé (UL), the Dean of the Arts Faculty, Mr. Komlan Nuboukpo, the Director of Studies at ESIBA and about one thousand students from the University of Lomé and other colleges (ESIBA, ESGIS, Ecole des Cadres, IAEC). Panelists were Mr. Corrao, the Educational Advisor of the ACC, the Cultural Affairs Assistant, and the Director of the Information and Research Center.
The speakers focused their presentations on opportunities offered by U.S. universities and colleges, how to get prepared for studies in the U.S, new requirements for student visas as well as fellowships and scholarships for post-graduate studies in the U.S. The program, which took place in the University of Lome Library, ended with a detailed presentation of “Nouveaux Horizons” books, a display of TOEFL, SAT, GRE and GMAT test-preparation books, the distribution of pamphlets on study opportunities in the U.S., and a Q and A session.
