Mr. David B. Dunn, new U.S. Ambassador to Togo

On Thursday, February 2, 2006, Mr. David B. Dunn presented his letters of credence as Ambassador of the United States of America to Togo to President Faure E. Gnassingbé.
During his tour, Ambassador Dunn hopes to see the long and collaborative relationship between the United States and Togo advance to a new level of partnership. In this regard, Ambassador Dunn will support the efforts of the Togolese people to strengthen democracy, including the promotion of human rights in Togo. The United States government is particularly interested in national reconciliation, the reestablishment of relations between Togo and the international financial institutions, as well as the fight against HIV/AIDs, so that the people of Togo can reach their full potential.
Before being named Ambassador to Togo, Mr. Dunn also served as Ambassador to Zambia from 1999 to 2002. He started his diplomatic career in 1978. He has served in six African countries. During his career he has served in Kingston, Tunis, Paris, Bujumbura, Port Louis, Dar es Salaam, Lusaka, and Johannesburg. Most recently he served in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he was Principal Officer at the Consulate General. He has also been deputy director and director of the State Department’s Office of East African Affairs.
Ambassador Dunn is a graduate of Occidental College and holds Masters Degrees from American University and the National War College.
