Content Based Instruction Institutes
PAS Lome hosted two intensive five-day institutes on Content Based Instruction and large classroom management techniques to 100 female and male classroom teachers of English as a Foreign Language of Togo. Conducted by Kay Westerfield, from the University of Oregon, the institute started with a first group of 50 teachers from 3 regions of the Northern Muslim dominated regions of Togo in Kara (August 5-10), and a second batch of 50 teachers in Tove (August 12-17). Participants examine what is Content Based Instruction, what is culture, integrated skills of reading, writing, speaking as well as managing a large classroom. This institute gave the opportunity Mr. Lantame Gnandi who just returned from Buffalo (Summer Institute for EFL School administrators from Lusophone/Francophone Africa) to share his US experience with his colleagues through a presentation he gave on “Teacher talking time versus Student talking time”.
